Friday 9th May

It’s been another busy and productive week here at school!

On Wednesday, we carried out a partial lockdown drill. These drills are an important part of our safeguarding procedures, designed to ensure that everyone knows how to respond quickly and calmly in the unlikely event of an emergency. The children were incredibly sensible throughout, and the drill went very smoothly. The children continued with their learning calmly while we completed all the necessary checks. Well done to everyone involved.

With Thursday being VE day, we marked this important occasion with a whole-school assembly, where we reflected on the significance of the day. In the afternoon, each year group took part in themed activities to commemorate the event:

  • EYFS – Designed medals using a range of materials

  • Years one and two – Created peace posters

  • Years three and four – Wrote acrostic poems using the word PEACE

  • Years five and six – Captioned war-time photographs, using empathy and imagination

It was lovely to see such creativity and thoughtful engagement from all the children.

Next week is the start of statutory assessment season for primary schools across England. The season starts with the year six SATs and over the course of the week they will sit tests in reading, maths, spelling and grammar. From Monday to Thursday we will offer our year six cohort the opportunity to enjoy breakfast with their peers prior to the tests starting. We often have parents asking how they can best support their children, and our number one answer will always be to make sure your child is in school and on time every day - this goes for every year group across the school. If your child isn’t in school they will be missing essential elements of their learning.

Have a wonderful weekend and we look forward to seeing you all on Monday morning.
