Friday 17th October
Happy Friday!
It’s been another busy two weeks with lots of events happening to share with you.
Last Monday, year four took part in their very own Sustainability Day. The children arrived dressed as Sustainability Superheroes, ready to take on the challenge of protecting our planet!
To begin the day, the small hall had been “mysteriously” transformed into a space full of rubbish. Using the recycled materials they collected, the children then worked in design teams to create their own DT inventions aimed at making life more sustainable. We were blown away by their creativity and problem-solving skills!
In the afternoon, they turned their attention to water conservation. The challenge was to transfer as much water as possible across the playground using a range of different containers — some more efficient than others! There was plenty of laughter as the children experimented, compared results and reflected on how precious a resource water really is.
Over the last two weeks, we have had four evenings of parents’ evening and it was such a pleasure to welcome so many families into school. These evenings are such valuable opportunities to celebrate the children’s achievements, share their progress and set goals for the rest of the term. The pride on the children’s faces as they showed off their books and work was heartwarming to see. Thank you to all parents and carers who attended for your continued support and partnership.
Last Thursday brought a real step back in time as year three held their exciting Roman Day! The children came dressed in amazing Roman costumes — from soldiers and emperors to goddesses and citizens — and fully immersed themselves in the world of Ancient Rome.
Much of the learning took place outdoors, where the children took part in Roman-inspired games, learned about the life of a legionary, and even experienced what it might have been like to sit around a fire discussing battle strategies!
A huge thank you to all the parents and carers who joined us for our Nursery Communication Workshops last Friday. The sessions focused on supporting children’s early language development through stories, songs and play. Mrs Waters shared lots of simple but powerful ideas that families can try at home to build confidence and communication skills.
On Wednesday, the children got the chance to practise their best smiles for School Photo Day. The children looked incredibly smart as they posed for their individual and sibling photos.
To round off this week, year two enjoyed a fantastic trip to Dudley Zoo today. The children had a brilliant time exploring the zoo and were particularly fascinated by the snow leopard, tapirs and monkeys. They also took part in an Arctic Explorer Workshop, where they learned about how animals survive in cold climates and how we can help protect endangered species. It was a perfect way to bring their recent learning in science and geography to life.
As we continue to enjoy our busy school weeks, I’d like to remind all parents and carers to please park safely and considerately around the school site.
We’ve had a few reports of cars being parked on double yellow lines and in front of residents’ driveways during drop-off and pick-up times. Please remember that these restrictions are in place to keep everyone — especially our children — safe.
When parking, please:
Avoid stopping on double yellow lines or zig-zag markings near the school gates.
Do not block driveways or restrict access for local residents.
Consider using nearby side streets and walking a short distance to school if possible.
Your cooperation helps keep our community safe and ensures that children can arrive and leave school calmly and securely. Thank you for your continued support and understanding.
Have an amazing weekend and we look forward to welcoming you back to school on Monday for the final week of this half term!
