Friday 7th November

 Happy Friday!

It has been lovely to welcome the children back to school after the half term holiday. We hope all families had a lovely break. The children have returned full of energy and enthusiasm, and ready for lots of fantastic learning opportunities. We were also joined by some special visitors this morning as part of our Scarecrow Festival, which certainly added some excitement to the day!

Our scarecrows were as follows:

Nursery – Humpty Dumpty

Year 1 – The Scarecrows wedding

Year 2 – A penguin and a polar bear

Year 3 – A badger and Isabel from the text ‘The Invisible’

Year 4 – Two recycling superheroes

Year 5 – A Victorian teacher and student

Year 6 – A scientist and a dancing queen

SLT – The Very Hungry Caterpillar

We have enjoyed some fantastic learning already this week. Miss Chipman and I have been talking about science and exploring the hands-on, practical experiments the children take part in to deepen their understanding. In year five on Monday, the children were investigating irreversible changes. Their challenge was to inflate a balloon without blowing into it! They filled a balloon with bicarbonate of soda and attached it to a small bottle containing vinegar. Once they tipped the bicarbonate of soda into the bottle, they were amazed to watch the chemical reaction that took place. The reaction created carbon dioxide, which inflated the balloon before their eyes. It was wonderful to see their curiosity and excitement as they made real scientific discoveries.

This week, we sent out a letter containing all the key dates for this half term. We want to ensure families have plenty of notice for all the wonderful events and learning opportunities ahead. If you have not received this via Parent Mail, please speak to the school office.

We are also delighted to share that our Christmas fair will take place after school on Wednesday 3rd December. If any members of our community would like to run a stall at the event, forms are available from the school office. We would love as many people as possible to get involved.

Today we launched our new Home Learning Menus, and the children are already excited to choose something to create or explore from their list. We are very much looking forward to seeing the imaginative and thoughtful work they produce.

Have a lovely weekend and we look forward to seeing you on Monday.
