Friday 1st March

Dydd Gwyl Dewi Hapus!

Happy Friday, and a Happy St David’s Day to any of our families with Welsh links! We were hoping for sunshine at the start of the spring season, but unfortunately we have rain and, according to some weather reports, a chance of snow. The thought of snow makes us shiver, and not because we are cold, just due to the chaos that comes with it and decisions about whether it is safe for school to remain open or not. Anyway, let’s hope it doesn’t come to that.

On Wednesday, year six returned from their residential tired but happy. Despite a glitch with the coach on Sunday, and the last minute deployment of the minibus, the children all arrived safely at the venue and continued to have an amazing time for the duration of their stay. They loved all of the activities, with the high ropes and the zip wire being particular favourites of many. Their ensuite cabins were lovely and warm, and kept reasonably tidy (some were better than others) and in each cabin there was a shelf full of snacks! The children ate exceptionally well and really enjoyed the variety of food on offer - the portions were huge, and often complemented with large bowls of salad - all of which was polished off! As always and as expected, our children were an absolute credit to the school and their families. Of course, none of this is possible without the dedication of our staff - Miss Homer, Mr Brettle, Miss Thacker, Mrs Hamblett, Mr Brady and Mr Patel - who gave up their own time, without any extra pay, to support the children. And, being on a residential with 49 children is definitely 24/7. A huge thank you to our whole community for supporting our fundraising events such as the Christmas Markets and Summer Festival as we do use some of the money raised to cover the cost of transport for the PGL , therefore keeping the cost as low as possible for our parents.

We didn’t have many children not attend the PGL, but those who remained had a great activity week in school with Mrs Whiteley. It even included a bowling trip!

In more year six news, today the children and their parents found out their secondary places for next academic year. This is always an exciting and slightly worrisome time. Very few children knew this morning where they’d been allocated so lots of children will be finding out this evening. If any parents have any concerns, please do contact the school if you’d like support.

Our year five and six female footballers have won the regional league. We are so proud of them! They scored a total of 17 goals across all their matches, and only conceded 1. They have now qualified for the Dudley final. Thank you to Mr Brady and Miss Flood for supporting the children to achieve such an amazing outcome.

Don’t forget, next Thursday is World Book Day and the children have been asked to come to school dressed as a word. We are looking forward to seeing how creative everyone has been.

Wishing you all a lovely weekend, and see you on Monday.
