Friday 23rd February

Happy Friday!

The start of spring term two has been very busy, and very wet! The rain has encouraged lots of worms to make their way onto the KS2 playground, and this has caused some concern with our children as they are worried they will be accidently stamped on. It is lovely that our children are showing such great care towards living creatures.

‘In a world where you can be anything , be kind’. At Olive Hill we want our children to be responsible citizens of the world in which they live, and a huge part of this is about how we treat others. We expect our whole community to act with kindness towards each other at all times. It is important that our curriculum focuses on the value of kindness, and what it means to be kind and this half term we are further highlighting this in assemblies. We want our children to understand that their actions, including their words, have an impact on others and those actions should support others to feel happy and safe.

Our behaviour policy supports us to ensure that the children are attending a school with a calm and purposeful atmosphere for learning, along with our curriculum it moves beyond this to support the development of responsible citizens. You will know that ‘ready, respectful and safe’ are our expectations. We track behaviour through our zone board system, and if your child is remaining in green or purple zone this is something you should be really proud of as they are consistently showing behaviours that make them beautiful citizens of our school (we hope they are like this at home too!). Where a child has made the wrong choice regarding their behaviour, then they will have a consequence dependent on the severity of the behaviour and the impact it has on others, alongside the consequence we will always support the child to understand why the behaviour wasn’t acceptable and to support them to make a different choice in the future. Even as adults we will make the wrong choices at times, but we need to put those wrong choices right.

Please make sure you have booked a parent’s evening appointment via our online system. If you are having a problems with this, please do speak to a member of staff who will be able to support you. It is imperative that you make an attend an appointment to share your child’s learning and progress with their class teacher.

Please make sure you have completed and returned your child’s dietary needs form in preparation for our new catering provider in April. If you need a new form, please request one from the school office.

This afternoon, Pear Class have enjoyed their cinema afternoon as a reward for their high levels of attendance last half term. There was lots of interest from the other children as we set up the hall with comfy sofas and bean bags, we wait to see which class will win the reward for this half term.

Earlier this week year six attended a performance of the Addam’s Family at Leasowe’s High School. They came back smiling, so it was definitely enjoyed by all.

Year three have visited the Botanical Gardens this week. Wellies were definitely needed on Thursday! The children have talked non-stop about the creatures they met including a corn snake and a hissing cockroach! There has also been talk of a ‘party bus’ with lots of singing! Who knew travelling to and from school could be so much fun! Some children did return absolutely exhausted.

On Sunday, the majority of our year six cohort will head off on their residential and we can’t wait to hear about all the adventures they have. This is an absolutely brilliant opportunity for the children involved, they have been asking so many questions - including one about a washing machine! We know they will return muddy, tired, smiling and with lots of new memories to last a lifetime.

Wishing everyone a wonderful weekend and see you on Monday (unless you are off to PGL in which case we will see you Sunday).
