End of Summer Term One May 26

Dear Families,

We have come to the end of the first half of the summer term, which means we only have one half term left of the academic year. As always, the half term has been a busy one with a visit from OFSTED, statutory assessments and several school trips. We are very proud of how our year six children approached their SATs, and we eagerly await the outcomes in July.

As a school, we have started to look towards the next academic year, and in the final half term of the year we will start to prepare the children for the transition to their next year group.

For those children entitled to benefit-related free school meals, vouchers will be issued for the holiday period. You will receive £10 per child, and they can be accessed via text or email that will be sent out tomorrow. If your child does not currently receive benefit-related free school meals, please check the following website for eligibility criteria and to apply online: https://www.dudley.gov.uk/residents/benefits/free-school-meals/. Benefit-related free school meals are different to universal free school meals, and you will only receive the voucher if you have applied for and are in of receipt of benefit-related free school meals (this can be confusing, so please contact the school if you need any support with this).

For your child to get the most out of their education, it is imperative that they are in school and on time every day. When children miss time from school, they miss chunks of their learning, and this can create difficulties for the child in the future. There is a strong correlation between high levels of attendance and excellent educational outcomes. As a parent of a primary aged child, it is your responsibility to ensure your child is attending school regularly. If you are having any difficulties with getting your child to school each day, you must speak to us so we can support you. Lack of attendance at school is a safeguarding concern and educational neglect, and fines of £1000 can be issued by the local authority as well as possible court action. We are often asked by parents how they can best support their children at home, and by ensuring your child attends school you are supporting them in the best possible way.

Well done to Cherry Class. They had the highest-class attendance this half term and as a result they chose today to have a sports afternoon. Beech class came second, and Pear class came third and so all three classes were able to wear their own clothes to school today!

Please can you make sure your child is coming to school in the correct school uniform. On their designated PE days, they should be wearing a plain (no logos) white t-shirt, plain (no logos) black jogging bottoms or shorts (which should be knee length), trainers and their school jumper or cardigan. When their usual school uniform is required, they should be wearing charcoal grey trousers, tailored shorts (that are knee length, cycling shorts are not part of our uniform policy), skirts or pinafore dresses with a white polo shirt and their school jumper or cardigan, or a royal blue gingham dress with their school jumper or cardigan. Usual school uniform should be worn with plain black footwear (this can include plain trainers, or in the warmer weather sensible sandals in black, white, grey, or royal blue). All footwear must hold your child’s foot securely. Heels, Crocs, and flip flops are not appropriate for school. Socks and hair accessories must be white, black, royal blue or grey. Please make sure your child is dressed appropriately for the weather conditions, and label EVERYTHING. We have mountains of blue jumpers in lost property with no names attached so we are unable to reunite them with their owners.

Please make sure you are keeping your contact details updated both in school, and on ParentMail. This is important as otherwise you will not be receiving important communication from us.

We wish all our families a wonderful break, and we look forward to hearing about the children’s new memories on their return. The children will return to school on Monday 1st June.

Yours faithfully,
Miss Walters
