Friday 19th April

Happy Friday!

We hope you’ve all had an enjoyable week. The numerous building projects across our school continue to progress (although this is sometimes hampered by the weather conditions). We are getting used to the sound of footsteps on our roof, and it will be a little while yet until the work is completed. The nursery outdoor area is really starting to take shape now, and you can see how it is going to improve the children’s learning experience - we are hoping this will be completed within the next couple of weeks. The replacement and extension of our perimeter fencing is nearing completion, having adequate fencing surrounding our school is so important as it helps keeps our children safe. The fencing now extends right the way around our bottom field, therefore there is no access to the school grounds from surrounding buildings. We spent a long time considering the fencing that runs alongside our reception garden, and we are really pleased that the new fencing not only looks good but it also offers us more privacy. Once again, we would like to say a huge thank you to our community who have been very understanding with all of the temporary changes in place.

We love a trip at Olive Hill and thanks to Mrs Williams’ careful management of our funding; the staff always being on the look out for the best value trip (and the occasional free one); the staff who volunteer to drive our minibus; and through the voluntary contributions from parents, we are able to keep the cost of trips as low as possible. Apart from the year six residential, we do not usually have to ask for a voluntary contribution of more than £10.

On Tuesday, year five had a fantastic day at the National Space Centre in Leicester. They left school early in the morning, and arrived back after the end of the school day. During their time at the Space Centre, they gained lots of new knowledge related to their current learning experience and climbed lots of stairs to reach to the top of a rocket! As always, our children were an absolute credit to the school and their families and the staff who went with them on the trip all said what a pleasure it was to have accompanied them.

Today our year two children have been to the Black Country Museum. On their return they were eager to share their highlights of the day including smelly soap, old toilets (with no sink), Victorian toys, chain making, a cinema and lunchtime. We may sound like a broken record, but our children were beautifully behaved and a credit to everyone.

On Thursday afternoon Apple Class enjoyed their attendance celebration. They had a great time in the hall with balloons, music and dancing. They looked very fancy in their party clothes and it was lovely to see them showing off their party clothes to their friends.

Due to the building work, we know that over the past couple of weeks we have had to make some changes to how (and where) we dismiss the children at the end of the day. Please could you ensure that you make the staff aware that you are ready to receive your child and then watch carefully as your child makes their way to you.

We look forward to another busy week next week. Wishing you a wonderful weekend!
